My first attempt at gardening on my balcony ended in gangly tomato plants, shriveled thyme, and some ravenous parsley beast.
The ruins of neglect.

This time, however, I'm continuing the year's theme of not overthinking it.  Soil, fertilizer, water, done.

No gangly tomato plants this year.
At left: A determinate cherry tomato plant, just right for containers.
At right: Thyme, Italian basil, chives, cilantro, and parsley.

From left to right: Upright rosemary, ranunculus, peppermint, and (use your imagination) a pot with arugula, radish, and mesclun lettuce seeds.
